Neat Link: Jerome's Vulgate Prologues in English

In his blog, Kevin P. Edgecomb has translated some neat words of St. Jerome, specifically Jerome's prefaces to his Vulgate renditions of the Hebrew Bible. Much of this has heretofore been unavailable in English, so we owe a huge debt of gratitude to Kevin. To access these translations, click here.

In one preface Jerome expresses his hopes about his work: "Pour out prayers for me to the Lord, so that as long as I am in this little body, I might write something pleasing to you, useful to the Church, (and) worthy to posterity. I am indeed not greatly moved by the judgments of the present, which on either side are in error either by love or by hate."

For fun, here's my visit to the traditional grave of Jerome in his underground study in Bethlehem:

Thanks, Stephen! I enjoyed doing them immensely. I'm going to be going back through them to clean up some rough spots and add them all to a single page, with a short intro and some notes. I'll post a link once that's done.

Great picture, too!
