Trinity Sunday 2008

In her sermon this morning, our VTS seminarian Beth walked us through the "Old Testament" icon of the Trinity by Andrei Rublev, from the Trinity Cathedral of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra (early 15th century). Click the image to greatly enlarge:

To the right and above the central figure (Christ) appears to lie the oak tree at Mamre, where the mysterious three messengers visited Abraham and Sarah. Hence, the identification of this image as the Old Testament Trinity, and hence, its special appropriateness for this blog. For a website with some interesting discussion of the image, click here.
