Live Date Palm Growing from a 2,000 Year-Old Seed

MSNBC is reporting that a sapling has sprouted from a 2,000-year-old date-palm seed excavated in a storage room at the Masada site. This particular tree, the "Judean Date," is now extinct in Israel/Palestine, but it is particularly interesting to scientists because of its possible medicinal properties.
