Peeking Behind the Scenes at SBL

Did you ever secretly wish you could sneak into the yearly SBL Conference early and see what all is involved in the set up? Well, I just discovered a blog post (click here) with actual photos showing a publisher setting up a large set of booths in the SBL book display. Take a peek, and enjoy the rare, behind-the-scenes look!

I find that those who have not been to an SBL often do not imagine the sheer size of the book exhibit. Well, this year in DC one got a good bird's-eye view of the exhibit hall from a balcony overlooking it. Here's a photo of one section of the hall (HT: Joe Weaks and Flickr; click to enlarge):

Where to Find Me at SBL

[Update: Click here for a very helpful post on "How to survive the SBL"]

Okay, this is just a tad bit narcissistic, but here are the two sessions where I'm giving talks at the SBL meetings in a few days. I'd love an audience, if anyone is free:

My talk on Afterlife, the Hereafter, and the Living-Dead:
S18-23 Social Sciences and the Interpretation of the Hebrew Scriptures
Saturday November 18, 2006 9:00 AM (CC 144)

My talk on Two Priestly Theologies: Reverence and Holiness:
S21-24 Social-scientific Studies of the Second Temple Period
Tuesday November 21, 2006 9:00 AM (CC 202B)

Aloha, Be There!
